Help!!! Travel from Vienna to Prague

I am trying to find transportation from Vienna to Prague in May. I had tried www.skyeurope.com and thought I could fly from Bratislava(which is very close to Vienna) to Prague, but apparently that flight is not offered or filled. Are there any other airlines from Vienna to Prague or some other mode of transportation? I also would need transportation from Prague to Dresden, Germany. I figure a train from here would be OK. It's only 2 hours from Prague. Any other ideas would be appreciated. I have tried Ryan Air, Easy Jet, Vueling and a few others, but none fly to Prague from Vienna. Please send me an email.

I would go by train. Considering time spent to get to the airport in Vienna and then from the airport in Prague and then you have to be at the airport 2 hours before your flight I think it could be cheaper and maybe slightly faster by train.

I was there this past fall and I just took the train from Vienna to Prague. The train is very easy. No showing up 1+ hour ahead of time and worrying about baggage allowed, etc, etc. For a train just make sure you get there in enough time to not miss the train (they leave on time) and just hop on. I took trains practically everywhere and much prefer doing that than all the hassles with flying.

If any of the allotted tickets are still available, you can get a SparSchiene fare of 29€ for Wien-Praha. Go to www.oebb.at/en to read all about it. Then phone the Austrian Rail Call Center and book your ticket.

I took the train from Prague to Vienna last summer
and found it most convenient and relaxing instead of
taking a flight.

Thanks all. I will take a look at a train then. This is something I can do on the web I take it, right? I normally fly from city to city, but would love to take a train. I know Austria is in the EU, but Czech is not... yet. Will this pose much of a problem as far as border crossings?

Chris, you'll enjoy the train ride but I should let you know that the Czech's would be saddened to hear they're not a member of the EU; they most definitely are. BTW, if you can fit Bratislava into your Vienna timetable for 1/2 day or so, you'll enjoy that, too.

While you can view the Austrian Rail site in English (see the link I gave above), when you get to the online booking stage the site will switch to German. As I suggested, phone the Austrian Rail Call Center. Book a SparSchiene ticket if you can get one or book a regular fare ticket if the SparSchiene tickets are gone.

The train from Vienna to Prague is easy, quick, and inexpensive compared to flying. But watch out for the reverse trip, if you need to do it. The Prague train station personnel often speak no or limited English, and my Czech (via a phrasebook) was even worse. I thought I asked whether we needed to pay for a seat reservation and was told no, but it turned out that the real answer was "yes." We ended up spending the trip in the aisles of the train and finally managed to get seats in the smoking compartment. (That wouldn't be an issue now; apparently smoking was banned on trains only a week or two after we took that train, so now we chalk it up to living through another part of history--the days of the smoking compartment!)

Last October i traveled from Vienna to Prague by train. We stopped by the train station the day before we were leaving to double-check the schedule and purchase tickets. the train was fast and very affordable, i think our tickets were only $40 each.
