HELP!! SNCF Tickets (TGV) bought using credit card that is now lost!

A couple of weeks ago I bought TGV tickets using the French website. Last week, the credit card I used to charge the tickets to went missing (either lost or stolen). The credit card company is reissuing the card to me using a new account number. My question to the forum is: how do I retreive my tickets in Paris using a new credit card??? Has anyone been able to do this without a big hassle? If so, what/how did you do it?

Thanks

V - Could you get some kind of leter from your CC company explaining the lost and reissue of the card?

Have you checked out the Help page on the TGV-Europe website?

I'm not sure if a letter will work. I'll admit when it comes to train travel questions i'm a beginner. The more knowledge people about train travel are Tim, Lee, & Michael.

Does a letter work? I haven't requested one because I did not know TGV/SNCF's policy regarding this issue.

I check the TGV-Europe site and can't find anything on a lost or stolen credit card.

The other problem is I do not speak French. So, talk about a nightmare.

Yea I might have a similar issue. I have to bring my "paying" Visa card with me to British Airways for my flight. I cant find it, lost in the house somewhere. I always put my cards in places where it wont get lost or stolen if someone broke in and now its MIA for weeks now. At least I have until November to find it!

something else for people to consider with this is if they book using a CC that expires before your trip.......even in terms of hotel reservations. Keep this in mind when making reservations.

Try emailing them and see what sort of response you get. There must be a way to deal with this sort of issue as in this day and age I am sure it happens more often then we would like.

TGV allows cancellation up to time of departure. Why not cancel the current reservation and remake it using the new card?

You've received some good suggestions. I think you should try sending an e-mail using the links on this page in English on the tgv-europe.com site. The site is operated by SNCF.

cancelling the reservation is a bad idea since it will cost more money to rebook (both in currency exchange and in true cost).

Also, my fare is NONrefundable and unchangeable.

And yes, I just emailed them.

Also, I contacted my credit card company to see if they can reissue a card with the old number. We'll see what happens.

Call them. Talk to a person and explain your situation. Likely they will tell you that you would need to check in with an agent. Get their name or make sure they document the info so the agent can pick up the instructions.

I have exactly the same problem (ticket is non-reimbursable; credit card swallowed by ATM two days ago, etc.). I emailed SNCF (twice) and they told me that for security reasons they wouldn't be able to issue the ticket without the original credit card. I have printed out a credit card statement showing the ticket purchase, as well as the original email from SNCF with the booking reference, which I plan to show to at a SNCF boutique when I attempt to collect my ticket. I'm not holding out much hope though; I think French bureaucracy will inevitably defeat me. Did you have any joy attaining your ticket?

oh my you would think that some sort of proof that you had that card would be enough such as the print out.
I wonder if it is better then to print your tickets if you have that option instead of picking up at the station.

I had a related problem, my card had to be reissued, but I did have the old, inactivated card. I was worried, so went to the station the night before my early morning flight. They swiped the "dead" card and I got my tickets. If you do try to get your tickets in the station, allow plenty of time. It was over 1 hour in line, but once at the front, I had the tickets in 30 seconds.

Do you have any old card with that number on it? I can vouch for the fact that it doesn't have to be active.

I can also confirm that it works with an expired card. I once took out tickets with a card that was expired. The clerk swiped the card, and the tickets were released without problems. But with a totally different credit card, I don't know.
