Not sure I am reading the sena.it bus schedule correctly from Milan to Siena, traveling on Feb. 5, 2008. Is the special fare 5 euros? Fare aside, is the bus or the train a better way to travel from Milan to Siena?
I tried the English button but it doesn't work for all pages. It looks like there are some nice fares there. The trip looks like about 4.5hrs so that's not bad. The travel time by train is almost identical (I looked). Also, the best way to get to Siena is by bus because the bus goes right up to the city wall. The train station is about 1.5km away.
One the www.sena.it website, I see an 800 number. That should be a toll-free number in the U.S. Give it a try and see if you can see what's up.
I think that's probably an Italian 800 number....they use 800 and 803 for toll-free numbers as well, unfortunately not accessible to us. If you definitely need to contact them directly, you can try their booking office numbers at 011-39-0577-283-203 or 011-39-0577-247-934.
I don't read Italian, but I was able to do three dummy bookings: one for two days from now, one for 5 February, and one for the last week of February. The first fare was 25€, the second was 10€, and the third was 5€. Obviously, the more in advance you book the cheaper the fare.
Thank you! That is pretty interesting, maybe I should try and just book it now; it's probably worth the 5 euros even if it doesn't work out for some reason. Appreciate your help very much.
Note that on the webpage, in Italian, there were lots of conditions. Again, the English button didn't work there so I couldn't understand all of that fine print. It doesn't look bad, however.
Jane - Some of the key terms and conditions for the EUR 5 Milan to Siena fare are: fare is valid from 02/04 - 04/30 (excluding Easter holdiay) on some days of the week. It must be purchased over the internet at least 10 days prior to date of travel. For credit card purchases, there's an additional EUR 3 administrative charge. Didn't look to see where the Sena buses depart in Milan or how you get the ticket, although my impression is that you get an e-ticket.
Yeah Frank. I thought that there might be some interesting fine print in there somewhere.
There are even a few more Larry, but my italian's not yet good enough to pick up all the subtleties. I think one clause says you must provide names of the passengers and they check names of those boarding against a list. It's probably there to discourage scalping on such low fares. All said, the terms and conditions for the special EUR 5 fare actually sound reasonable.
