Help plan our trip-Copenhagen-Paris-Italy!

Hi! My husband and I are headed to Europe for the first time in June. We have a 3 day (mandatory) stop in Copenhagen but then, we'd like to go to Paris, Normandie, Venice and Rome. After leaving Copenhagen, we have about 10 days. I'm looking for suggestions on:

  1. transportation to each destination (I assume we will fly from Denmark to Paris, but rail from there to other locations?)
  2. Sites, attractions we should see- the "best of the best" since we don't have that much time.
  3. In Normandie, should we make reservations for one of the tours or just wing it on our own?
  4. Anyone have any experience staying at any of the military lodging locations? My husband is in the US service and we are considering this option to save some money.

Thank you for your suggestions! We are excited and willing to spend money for this once-in-a-lifetime experience, but we want to save where we can. We are novice travelers so any suggestions are greatly appreicated!

Jennifer, I think--and it's just my opinion--you'll have a better trip if you slow down.

With "about ten days"--lets call it eleven--you are planning nearly five days in transit (starting in Copenhagen), leaving six and some change to see four wonderful destinations. And that's not counting your return as a travel day.

Whatever plans you make on such a schedule will be uncomfortably brittle. One rail strike or rainy day could derail an entire leg of your trip.

Don't be a prisoner of the "once-in-a-lifetime" meme. It is a trip killer.

You can have a memorable vacation at any two of these destinations and will not run of of things to see and do. (I'd suggest either France or Italy, but you could fly from Paris to Rome.)

As a bonus you will save money and spend more of your 11 days in museums, castles, and cafes (or whatever it is you like to do).

Very best of luck!
