Help! open jaws cost June-July

I've read all the posts about trying to guess which ways fares are going - know it's impossible to KNOW. Any feeling of $1600 for Minnneapolis-Rome return from Paris?? Also the note that pops up "only 4 seats left at this price"??? Any gurus out there?

Try this.

Since you are at MSP, also check sites for Delta.

And I know RS says fly open jaw, but these days, think about RT to Milan. $1200.

Not familiar with your airport. But these days with the costs of flights...it is sometimes more affordable to have a short 1-2 days lay over somewhere if the ''price is right''. E.g. Flying to Reykavik since Icelandair often has good prices...and then go on to your destination. It seems high to me...I have never paid that from LAX...but of course, we probably have more flights options at LAX.
Good luck!

Ignore the "only a few seats left" messages. Is it true, a lie, or a misunderstanding? Doesn't make any difference; it certainly cannot be a projection of the situation next summer.
For the last few years, trans-Atlantic prices start to rise in May and go sharply up in June, staying there until at least the start of September. My habit is to start shopping in mid-December and purchase by the end of January' I felt my my deals were reasonable. It is also my suspicion that the earlier you buy, the more chance there is of a schedule change which you may not like. The mid-summer months are also the least likely to have flash sales, although a fluke bargain is always possible. You're right; it's like gambling.

Where do you get the "only 4 seats Left" from? Is it a seller of tickets other than the airline itself? in that case, that may be the only tickets they were allotted. Check directly on the airline's site, you may also see available seats.

I'm guessing the "only 4 seats left" is from Kayak. I know I've seen the same statement when looking for airfare through Kayak. I've been told to check pricing on Kayak and when you find one you like, go to the actual airline's site to purchase....I have noticed, though, when I click on "purchase" on Kayak it directs me to the actual airline's site......

Actually, the only 4 seats left at this price may well be on the Delta site. I've been watching a domestic fare on the Delta site, didn't purchase when it said 1 left and yep, that was apparently the last in that fare bucket. It IS a different situation as it is for travel in early Dec and as I said, domestic, but Delta does have that on it's website. I sign in with my FF number.

I agree with others though, for travel next summer I would wait a while and see what happens.

Also look at open jaw using Icelandair. They do not fly to Rome, but to Milan, an easy rail connection. They do go out of Paris

The only 4 seats left was on Air Canada website as well as Kayak. My husband already has a ticket on Delta with FF miles so I would like to keep the same destination and approzimate flight times for myself and my grand daughter. Delta is way more expensive at least now.

How about flying Delta to Newark & changing to Air France or KLM to final destination? All 3 airlines are on the same FF program.

I leave for Lisbon in the spring (5 months out) on group rates. For the fun of it I looked up the fare from Houston to Lisbon for same departure & return dates - $982 with 5 seats left (non group rate.) Delta would fly me to Newark. Air France takes me to Lisbon.

Because of playing the get-our-cc-and-get-50,000 miles game, we bought my husband's ticket in September; but waited on purchasing mine. There was a little "only 2 at this price" message, but I decided to take a chance and delay in order to get the extra miles. I bought mine (on his new card, to give him most of the $$ needed to get the bonus) 6 weeks later. New little message said "only 4 at this (same) price." One of the less malicious practices of the airlines.

No, it is called load management run by a smart computer. At any given time those messages are accurate. Once those tickets are sold at that price, the load management software decides whether more will be release at that price or another price. The the reason that prices change daily if not hourly. I have played that game and sometimes I lose.

I think that if you want to book open jaw on Delta you would be best served calling them direct rather than trying to get the website to work for you. Delta computers book flights on the assumptions that you will fly round trip and don't do open jaw well. There is the same problem with booking award flights on Delta. The computer will show you the round trip mileage required whether you only wanted to go one way or not. I would call and speak to a customer service representative before I gave up on Delta.

I'm flying open jaw in May from Nebraska to Amsterdam and home from Glasgow to Nebraska. I bought my tickets a week ago. To a certain degree you can ignore the "4 seats left" warning. As somebody explained, so many seats are released at a time at a certain price (the same way hotels are run) and then its decided whether to hike the prices. You will see this warning on any of the travel sites. As it gets closer to your date, the chances are greater that the 4 seats left is more accurate. Personally, I've been burned BADLY by waiting too long to book international flights ( as in price hike of $500). For the best deals on your airfare and the most choices for flights, carriers, layovers, seats, etc. I suggest booking 5-6 months in advance, or as soon as you know your flight information. The closer you get to your date, the less choices you have (of anything) and the more chances you have of your flight going up in price. You might stumble upon a good deal, but you're more likely to pay higher prices. I've been tracking my Europe flight for 6 months now, using various dates and departure locations, and the prices have barely changed at all in those 6 months. So as soon as I was clear on my dates, I booked. My flight was around $1400. After mid May the price went up to $1800. So your price doesn't sound far off the mark. You said it all when you wrote "Impossible to know". But the odds are- that your price is at its best right now- as are your choices pertaining to your flight.

Barb,

In my opinion as long as our choices of airlines keep getting smaller and smaller, prices will go up. No matter what CEO/Govmt official says.

My usually R/T from PDX to AMS has gone up 400 USD for next year. Up until that point it was about 50 ~ 100 USD/year increase in the 3+ years i have been using that route.

So, im looking at other airports like SEATAC to fly in/out of.

When it comes down to it, if youre lucky and someone on here happens to fly in/out of your home port and were happen to be going the same places you are and if they have the info, great. But sometimes you have to do some homework to find the deals if any. What you can do is to track the price of fairs every so often as in weekly or daily for a while and get a "feel" for cost of the flight(s). Ive been doing it for my PDX to AMS just to see how prices change.

Try looking at flying in/out of different airports and dont forget to add nearby airports too on your search. Some search engines will allow you to check a box for that. Also look at flying at different days of the week too.

As far as the

"only 4 seats left at this price"??

i ignore those type of things unless youre booking 3 months out or less. also, its "...@ that price" not "last seat, period" Im looking at flights into Athens, Greece for late next year from various cities and came across those same notices. Yes, they could be true, but im ignoring them anyway.

happy trails

As far as that "4 seats only" message, I've been seeing that a lot lately at a number of websites. My friend's daughter was booking a holiday for her extended family that exceeded the number stated. They just phoned and the phone agent said that it was no problem extending it to the group of six (it said two). Not to say that it is guaranteed, but it can happen.

Thx for the mention of Milan round trip - $1200 is a good price. However, my relative already has a FF ticket into Rome where we plan to start our trip. We are training thru Italy, Austria etc and ending in Paris. Surface transportation can eat up time and $. I found $1600 into Rome and out of Paris. Sound good or not??

I guess under the circumstances, $1600 will have to do. If it is during summer, that is not too bad a price. Since DH is flying ff, he should have plenty of coin left to show you a good time.
