Ok, so I messed up and brought a big suitcase, lecture me later. I'm in Kedington and need to get to London (about an hour away) for Saturday morning the 23rd. Staying at the Victoria Inn in Victoria. Thinking of a taxi to Cambridge and train from there but don't know what train or to which station- I imagine I can grab a taxi from what ever station to the Inn? I suppose I could take a Limo door to door for £200. but then I won't have money
for food upon arrival....hahaha
taking any and all suggestions (and help!)
Is that anywhere near Steeple Bumpstead? :). There's hourly rail service from Cambridge to London, but instead of going into Cambridge, try for the station at Newport or Great Chesterford, to the south of Cambridge....closer and less traffic. The distance to both is about 30 km from your location, or about 19 miles. Check with the locals, since many smaller towns have bus service to feed riders to the nearest train stop. All trains down that line run to London's Liverpool Street station, in the NE part of central London. From there, you can cab it (expensive) or hop on the Circle Line and ride it around 11 stops to Victoria station. Your hotel's about half a mile down Belgrave road from there...a nice walk, or a short taxi ride. For train schedules and fares, check out http://nationalrail.co.uk. For London Tube maps, etc, check out http://www.tfl.gov.uk
Keddington (used to know people there when I was a student at Cambridge, it's a small world!) is on the 113 bus (think that is the route number) to Cambridge via Haverhill. They are hourly on most days. Takes about 1.25hrs to get to Cambridge. The bus stops at the top of Station Road on Hills Road on the way into the city centre. Fast non-stopping trains of 50mins run to Kings Cross station in London or slow trains (over an hour) run to Liverpool Street Station in London. From Kings Cross take the Victoria line tube straight to Victoria or from Liverpool street take the Circle line tube to Victoria. Hope this helps :)
Lots of people travel in intercity buses (coaches) in England. There is a large storage space under the bus where luggage is stowed. If you take a coach, someone else (the bus driver) will handle your over-sized bag for you. There is a major bus (coach) station in the Victoria area, so even if you have to take a taxi, it shouldn't cost much from the bus station.
