HELP how to get from France to Ireland and train questions

Hello everyone,

I will have the Eurail Global pass so I will have access to trains. How do I get from Strasbourg, France to Dublin, Ireland? I know I have to take a train into Paris, then a train to the UK. Then I do not know what to do. How do I plan to take a ferry and any information on a ferry that will get me to Dublin would be very very helpful.

Thank you

The Eurail Global pass does not give free travel on Eurostar, British trains, or ferries. You do get a discount of some kind on Eurostar and the Holyhead-Dublin ferry, but even so it will be a very long journey.

I would STRONGLY recommend flying even if you have romantic ideas about doing it the "traditional" way. There are no direct flights from Strasbourg to Dublin, but Ryanair fly from Basel to Dublin, and you can get from Strasbourg to Basel by train quite quickly.

Be warned that Ryanair are a budget airline that charges extra for an awful lot of things - read the terms and conditions carefully; you MUST be able to check in online and print out your own boarding pass, or pay a huge penalty charge at the airport; and hand luggage size restrictions are VERY strictly enforced.

Alternatively, if you're scared off by Ryanair's reputation, Aer Lingus fly, although not every day per week, from Stuttgart to Dublin, and Strasbourg to Stuttgart is only about two hours by train.

Or heck Strasbourg to Paris is only 2 hours and 20 minutes by train, and then you have lots of options for flying to Dublin.
