What is the best way to got from Edinburgh to London? Is the Caldonian Sleeper really the only night train option? It is really expensive, I've checked the bargin berths and they aren't available for Sept. 9, the night we want. (my husband and I) I wanted to save by not getting a hotel, but all I can find is 220.00! Is there any other way? Is the mornging train (6 am) that bad? Thanks!
Greetings
If the sleeper doesn't work out, there are plenty of flights from Edinburgh to London. No need to go to Glasgow. EasyJet has good fares and BMI's fares can be better than EasyJet if booked ahead. FlyGlobespan, I believe, also flies to one of the London airports and there might be other options. I would avoid British Airways though.

Hi .That is the only sleeper service in the Uk.
www.transportdirect. is good for finding fares , with options by time or cost.
The other short cut, use google to get homepage of departing station and then run through the train companies operatingout of there on thier own website. I've just done. Scotrail , searching for 1 adult on the 9th depart 9.30am, arive London 2.03 Fare £15.70
Repeat again for 1 person, next fare is £25.50.
Actually this is a GNER service, so should be 10%cheaper if booked on thier system.
If you use the "fastticket2 option you will be able to book online. You must however put a 2fake2 Uk postcode in for the system to work. Then collect your tickets from any big station , using your confimation code and the SAME card you booked with
Travelodge have a Saveroom for £26 on the 9th Sept. Just ashort taxi /bus ride from the centre.Best wishes Richard ,
Whoops, of course if you travel on the 9th, wouldn't need the hotel room.

Another option
Travel to Glasgow on the 9th, mega bus , £2 each
Stay at Travellodge Glasgow Central £26
10 Sept
2 times bus to Glasgow airport £7
2 people plus 2 checked bags on the 10.15am flight £76
Ryainair.It is a 1hour 15min flight
I just found Apex Advance fares of £66/person for the Caledonian Sleeper on 9 September. They may have just become available so I suggest that you check again.
Sorry--I thought I posted this last night, but now I don't see it. I got a 2 for 1 on the Caledonian Sleeper for next month for 49 pounds each. Here is the link--the only catch is you have to do this through the telesales office.

I am thinking about an early morning train on the 10th of Sept. instead, but how long would a flight take, including airport transportation, security, etc. The train takes 4hrs 20 min. Is it better to fly, or about the same length of time overall? Thanks!
Jenny.....set aside an hour to get to the airport from downtown...maybe less if early enough to beat traffic. Arrive at least an hour before flight time (more if it's a discount airline, since their check-ins close around 40 minutes before flight time), a 1:15 or 1:30 flight, then 30 to 90 minutes to get your luggage and get into downtown London via train/bus/tube, depending on your arrival airport. MIMIMUM time, 4 hours.
