Help!?! Denver to Prague

I am due to study abroad in Prague from July 4th to August 3rd through the University of Economics at Prague. My problem? I don't have air travel booked. Why? I didn't get ed for any of the over $7500 in scholarship money I applied for back in January. I am working hard fundraising through bake sales, tie dye sales, etc. and am very slowly raising money. One of our neighbors had a friend over a few weeks back that said he knows someone working for United that offers him buddy passes all the time...and he could get them for me for $400 round trip to and from Prague. I have a window of time in which I can fly standby and the program is working with me....but if I don't go I still have to pay all the program fees regardless. Our neighbor has not heard back from this friend since that day, so I'm not counting on this "deal". What else can I do? I am running out of time and ideas. I need ideas, pointers, etc.

I would jump all over that $813 fare that Dianne found. With almost any other travel dates the fare is over $1300.

Diane, Is that round trip?? That could be possible if thats with fees, etc. This is my first trip outside the US so I'm pretty lost when it comes to this type of thing!! Leza

I don't see any options other than purchasing a ticket. Have you tried the Icelandair flights that just started - maybe a little cheaper than the regular airlines. Or try to get a ticket from a student agency such as STA travel that may be able to get you a discount. Unfortunately with just a month to go you don't have too many options.

I've travelled on buddy passes (although not internationally). In my experience, summer is the worst possible time to try and travel on a buddy pass. Have you looked at flights via Kayak to find the cheapest one you can? Iceland Air has some very inexpensive fares to Europe. I'd try to find an inexpensive fare to any large European city and then search for cheap flights using sites like Skyscanner. And it may be less expensive to take a train to Prague once you are in Europe.

I just did a search on Kayak using a departure date of 7/2/2012 and return of 8/5/2012 - the cheapest fare it showed was $863 on KLM. If you play with the dates a bit, you may be able to do a bit better. Is $863 within reach?

Changing the return date to 8/3/2012 lowered the RT fare to $813

Yes,
That is round trip, only the return date is 8/6 not 8/3. I'd encourage you to play with the search a bit, but not waste any time if you find something good. www.kayak.com - feel free to send a private message if you want. You DO have your passport, right?

What about the website "AirTech.com"? Anyone have any experiences with them? I know a lady that used them to fly to and from Hawaii through them and she had good things to say about them, but their website is pretty vague....
