Heathrow to Southwark, Southwark to Gatwick

We're flying into Heathrow at the beginning of our trip and staying in the Southwark area. As far as I can tell the best way to get over there would be to take the Heathrow Connect to London Paddington and then take the tube to Southwark. Is there a better way? (Cost is more important for this one).

At the end of our trip, we're flying out of Gatwick. I'm thinking this is a good thing as the security lines are probably shorter at Gatwick and we don't want to get up too early. :) I'm not sure what the best way to get to Gatwick from the Southwark area is, though - anyone know? (Time is probably more important for this one, but a taxi is still way too pricey.)

Thanks for your help...

Yes, there is a better--and cheaper--way. Take the Piccadilly Line from Heathrow to Green Park. Change to the Jubilee Line and take it to Southwark. Fare: £4.00.

A taxi to Gatwick would cost a small forture. Take the Jubilee Line to London Bridge. Take a First Capital Connect train from London Bridge to Gatwick. Trains run every 15 minutes, travel time is just over 30 minutes, and the fare is £8.50.
