HEATHROW TO SOHO

We are going to be arriving at Heathrow at 11:45 on 23 June, 2013. After travelling on a plane from L.A. for 9 hours, we'll be pretty tired, including jet lag and the time change. Do you think that it's better to hire a black cab, or take public transit? The rest of the time that we're in London, it's public transit all the way.

am or pm? If it's pm, definitely get a cab. Even if you get to the Tube before it shuts down for the night, you probably don't want to be wandering round Soho looking for your hotel/flat at that time of night.

We do the Heathrow Express plus cab to our hotel, as Elle described. If there are two of you, and returning to Heathrow at some point, the Duo ticket is a great deal--£12.50 pp each way. For the comfort and convenience over the Tube, we gladly pay that.

The Heathrow Connect takes longer from Heathrow, but costs less than the Express. I paid 9.50 GBP. A taxi won't cost a lot from Paddington to Soho; it depends on traffic, etc.

The cheapest but slowest option would be to get the Piccadilly Line underground to Piccadilly Circus or Leicester Square depending on which is closer to your hotel. The advantage is the lack of any need to change trains and low cost. Disadvantages are that it's slow and you will need to carry your luggage up and down long escalators. (The one at Leicester Square was for many years the longest in London.)
