We will be landing at Heathrow at 15:30 and plan to stay in London overnight and then take the National Express bus (since they offer half price to age 60+) to Stansted airport to get a 11:25 flight. Any suggestions for hotels near the Stratford station or other inexpensive scenarios for the tranportation and hotel during the layover

Gail, the best I can give you is my research for our upcoming trip. We are renting a car as it saves us a lot of money (there are 6 of us). I realize that isn't for everyone, but there isn't really a "cheap" way from Heathrow to Stansted. I believe with your age discount the National Express bus is good. Most hotels in the area have a modest transfer fee (£7-10) from airport to hotel or vice versa) We are staying at the London-Stansted Airport Express by Holiday Inn.
