I'm flying to London next week, staying with a friend. She can't meet me at Heathrow and suggested I take the Tube to Arsenal. Does anyone know if I'll have to change Tube? And, should I get the Oyster? I'll be in London for 2 weeks.
You can get the Heathrow Underground (tube) and go to either Charing Cross or Cannon Street, then change to get to Woolwich Arsenal. If you take the Heathrow Express to Paddington Station then get the tube you would have to change twice on the tube. So it would be easier to take the tube from Heathrow into London, only changing once. Have fun.
The Arsenal tube station (this is NOT Woolwich Arsenal) is on the Piccadilly line which is the line serving Heathrow. The ride will take just over an hour (no changes).
Yes, you should get an Oyster card. Whether you load seven-day travelcards on it or use it as a pay-as-you-go card--or both--depends upon how much you'll use the tube and/or bus and/or DLR while you're in London and which zones you'll be traveling in. Read the information at www.tfl.gov.uk to help you make the best use of an Oyster card.
