BA has changed a connecting flight. Orginally scheduled to land in Heathrow from DFW, then fly from Heathrow to Venice...NOW must go from Heathrow to Gatwick to catch a flight to Venice....We have 6 hours between flights.....I was thinking we could take the underground from Heathrow to Victoria station, then Gatwick Express to airport....Is this feasible? Any better suggestions? Thanks for your help.
The easiest way is to take the National Express Coach directly between Heathrow and Gatwick.
Travel between Airports
The direct National Express coach costs 19.50 GBP.
The Tube (4.00 GBP) + Gatwick Express (16.90 GBP) = 20.90 GBP.
The Tube (4.00 GBP) + Southern train from Victoria (7.90 GBP) = 11.90 GBP.
Southern trains run every 15 minutes and the ride is only ten minutes longer than the ride on the Gatwick Express.
Take the Piccadilly line from Heathrow to Hammersmith, walk a few feet to the other side of the platform, and take the District line to Victoria.
If saving money is most important, take the Tube plus a Southern train.
If keeping things simple and direct is most important, take a National Express coach.
Terry we took the National express last year from Heathrow to Gatwick, we did not buy our ticket in advance, just the day arriving, it took around 45 min between both airports, that was in no traffic around 8pm at night, it was the easiest way to do this for us.
Terry, We took the National Express bus from Heathrow to Gatwick 2 years ago and it was about a 45 min. wait for the next bus. The trip seemed to take a long time - maybe 1 1/2 hrs. or so.
We were also on a B.A. flight to London, then a B.A. flight to Venice. After arriving at the Venice airport, it was easy but expensive to take an individual boat to our hotel. Since we had so much luggage for our cruise, it was worth it, though.
A long time ago we booked an itinerary to Scotland through London, with an inter-airport transfer. Under the terms of our fare the transfer between Gatwick and Heathrow was included as part of the flight tickets (they gave us a set of coupons for the coach). Since the airline's change is causing you to have to transfer between airports, have you thought about asking the airline whether they can provide coach coupons?
In my experience I've been able to apply some leverage successfully when an airline's change causes inconvenience such as a long layover.
You have plenty of time between flights to get to Gatwick. National Express tickets can be purchased online from home if you aren't going to get help from the airline.
