Arriving 23 July, early AM and intend to go straight to Dover, cross the channell and spend 2 days in Normandy, returning 7/25. Understood there was a car rental that let you start with a right hand drive, then change to left hand drive in France, same on return- has anyone heard of or used this?

Hertz used to run a deal called "Le Swap" which did what you said. I haven't heard anymore of it for many years.

Thanks, I'll check it out. For several reasons driving seems to look like our best option for this little side trip.

There is no need to drive to Dover. You can take a National Express coach (highway bus) from Heathrow to Dover (one connection in London). For timetables and fares go here.
