We are traveling from San Francisco to London Heathrow arriving on Saturday April 10th. I was planning on taking the Tube from the airport to Russell Square which looks like it is a direct trip without having to change trains. In checking on the Transit site for London it appears that on Saturday and Sunday they are doing construction and the trip requires multiple shuttle buses. Has anybody had any recent experience with this and any suggestions for alternative means.
Unfortunately, it is common for engineering works to be scheduled on the weekends. I checked the tfl site and it shows part of the Piccadilly line is suspended between Northfields and Hammersmith so that is why your journey from Heathrow is impacted.
When there are engineering works, I typically bite the bullet and spend the extra money for the Heathrow Connect or Express and pick up the tube at Paddington. Another option would be to book a car service. I don't know the current rates, but this could be a cheaper option if there are 3 or more of you.
If you didn't see it already, on the tfl.gov.uk site, you can click on the Live Travel News tab and then select your date of travel and see a map which shows the sections of the tube that are affected by the works.
Since you will be traveling with luggage, you could take the Heathrow Connect train to Paddington, then take a taxi from there. That's what I would do. The taxi stand is on the side of the train station and is well-marked.
Thanks for the suggestions. It looks like the Heathrow connect train to Paddington and a cab from there will work.
