We (family of 4, kids ages 15 and 18) will be staying at the Luna Simone Hotel for several days prior to starting a RS Tour next June. I need to book a flight from London to Rome (where the tour starts) and was wondering if I should leave from Heathrow or Gatwick airport. The flights leave early--about 7am--so not sure the underground is even an option at the early hour we will need to be on the road. Maybe with 4 people a taxi would be an economical option anyway. I'd appreciate some advice. Thanks!
At that time of the morning and with 4 people, I'd suggest using a car service; this will be less expensive than a taxi. Heathrow is closer than Gatwick so I'd choose Heathrow if other things were equal. I frequently see Just Airports and Simply Airports recommended on Tripadvisor. I have not used a car service recently and have no personal experience with either of these companies.
I agree with Laura. A private car service will be cheaper than a taxi, particularly if you fly out of Gatwick. Just Airports gives a discount for paying cash.
Wouldn't the choice of airline & flight dictate the airport? Easyjet doesn't fly from Heathrow, for example. Get the tickets a few months in advance at the best price/value you can find, then worry about getting to the airport involved.
