Heathrow (LHR) OR Gatwick (LGW) Which to choose?

Iceland Air has flights from each airport headed for SEA via KEF.

Cost is the virtually the same ($6 difference)

Flight departure time is Noon from LGW and 1215 from LHR.

Which would you choose, coming from the"typical" London tourist area? Why?
(Flight would be in June, if that matters)

Thank you

Heathrow is easier to get to with tube access.

Gatwick is easier to get to by Gatwick Express, Thameslink, or Southern Railway to right underneath the terminal. Very easy if you will be near Victoria, Westminster, the City, South Bank, London Bridge or points in between.

Half an hour on the train plus or minus, direct.

I would choose Heathrow because if there are difficulties that come up, there are more other options to Seattle. However, both work.

Either will be easy to access "from the"typical" London tourist area" although depending on the specifics one might be a bit quicker/easier than the other. I prefer LHR over LGW in general but it is more of a personal thing.

Thank you for the comments.

The 'where' in London is not yet determined.

One thought was that the LGW flight arrives at KEF 15 minutes earlier than the LHR flight so would have a bit fewer folks in line to clear passport exit process, for the onward flight. (KEF-SEA)

As Iceland Air is not part of an 'alliance', not sure being at LHR would matter if there were an equipment issue.

You won't get consensus on which airport. I'm on 'Team Gatwick' as I personally view transit as being better to there than Heathrow, from many, but not all, tourist areas.
From Paddington and some west London locations it's clearly Heathrow.

Iceland Air certainly allows you to earn miles on Alaska airlines which may be of advantage to you , Joe. To give you an example of how they can flex, last year Keflavik airport closed for a few days. I can't remember the reason. My brother and his wife were scheduled to fly Seattle to Frankfurt on Iceland Air. Iceland Air proactively rescheduled them on Virgin Atlantic out of Seattle instead. In fact, they ended with lie-flat business class seats and had no complaints at all!

Icelandair will reschedule on another airline if the circumstances warrant.

Joe, are you just connecting at the London airport, and not heading into town for a stay? I’m not certain that lines will be shorter at Border Control, if other international flights just arrived, too, and the 15 minutes might not make much queuing difference.

When Icelandair first served Denver, Gatwick was the only option (still is), and it worked well. We stayed closer then to Victoria Station in London. When British Airways first included Denver flights, same thing, it was Gatwick. Now that the Denver BA flights use Heathrow, that’s our only option, and we now happen to stay closer to Paddington.

To clarify, joe32F is actually arriving in London via Eurostar from France, staying for a while, then flying home from either Heathrow or Gatwick.

I replied to your PM, joe. Happy travels, either way!

We will be flying home from London via Gatwick in May. We are staying in the Victoria area so I was happy to see Nigel’s reply.
