Considering a BA flight from Seattle to AMS but it has only an hour and half layover at Heathrow. I assume we'd have to go through customs? Is this enough time to connect?
If on a single ticket, you will need to get from one gate to the next and go through a security screening in between

It will be tight. If everything works as expected, it is doable. In case of irregular operations, be prepared you may be on “next available flight “ instead.
Why not fly nonstop on Delta to AMS? I tried a random date and it was about the same cost as the BA flight. It would be worth it to me to pay a little more and avoid any layover.
Renee, that would be my preference and what we do usually, but it's quite a bit more expensive for the dates we're looking at.
One time, our plane arrived late at Heathrow, and then the Security line was really, really long. After approaching a uniformed person at the back of the Security maze, we got moved to the front. At least our connecting flight was in the same terminal, so there wasn’t an additional time needed to get to a different terminal.
Frankly, that all beats a 6 or 8 hour layover.
That is just too short of a layover for my comfort level. I wouldn't risk it.
It's tight, no doubt. But I'd bet the BA has a good number of flights from LHR to AMS after the one on that ticket. If you missed the connection, you'd probably have plenty of backups available.
You will go through security but no customs and no immigration.
