2 adults with 1 suitcase and 1 carry-on each need to get to Dover from Heathrow mid-day by train or bus. Shortest time preferable. thank you.
Take the Tube (Piccadilly Line) from Heathrow to King's Cross/St Pancras. The trip takes about an hour. There is now high-speed train service from St. Pancras International to Dover. Trains run every 30 minutes and the trip take just over an hour.
Many thanks. You folks at Rick Steves are quick and generous with your answers. Do you know if there are any transfers that we need to make on either Tube or train? Can we/Should we buy tickets on-line before we go? Is the Tube easy to find. We are coming in on Air Canada from Canada--don't know the Terminal yet.
There are signs at each terminal which give clear directions to the Tube stations.
It's a direct shot on the Piccadilly Line from Heathrow to King's Cross/St Pancras.
Trains leaving St Pancras International around ten minutes past the hour go directly to Dover Priory. If you take a train that departs around 40 minutes past the hour, you will need to make a connection at Ashford.
There is no real advantage to buying London-Dover tickets in advance because there are no discount fares on that route.
Could anyone tell me approximately how much the high speed train portion will cost?
Thanks.
Deb,
For timetables and fares go to www.nationalrail.co.uk. Off-peak (after 09:30) is £31.30. Peak (anytime) is £33.70.
