Heathrow Airport to Bath or Oxford by train

Since we arrive at Heathrow in July at 10:45 a.m., we are considering catching a train on to either Bath or Oxford since we probably cannot get into a London hotel until midafternoon or later. We will have a Britrail pass, and will be returning to London some days later.

Has anyone taken either of these train routes? Do we have to go into London first--if so, should we use our Britrail pass?

Thanks!

I suppose it all depends on how long your pass is valid for and what else is on your itinerary.

If your first night is in London, I'd imagine by the time you clear customs and get to the hotel most of the morning would be gone. You can grab a bite to eat and be ready for the hotel and relax the first day. The next day you can head out starting your full day using the pass.

London Paddington station is the starting point for Oxford and Bath which is also connected to Heathrow by tube or Heathrow Connect train.

Your pass is good on the Heathrow Express as well as all National Rail trains. You can take the HEX to Paddington and connect there to trains to either Bath Spa or Oxford. Only you can decide if it's worth usng a pass day for this trip. The fare on the HEX is £16.50. The off-peak fare for London-Bath Spa is £28. The fare for London-Oxford is £19.

The Airline is a direct bus service between Heathrow and Oxford operated by the Oxford Bus Company. The fare is £20.
