I have a 6 hour layover from 1:40-7:40pm at London-Heathrow. Is there anything close to the airport that we could walk to or take a short cab ride to get some fresh air and maybe have a late lunch. Our bags will be checked through so we will just have our daypack. Would this be fun or more of a hassle? Thanks.
By the time you deplane, go through immigration and clear customs, it will be at least 3pm. You will have to check in again by 5ish. That doesn't leave much time. You might be able to make it to Windsor for a VERY quick snack or early tea.
Do you know how far windsor is from the airport? Is the best/fastest way to take a cab?
25 minutes there, 25 minutes back - just not worth it for less then a one hour peek. Relax and people watch in the airport. Have fun!
Windsor is a great town, but may not be enough time.
Besides the 20-25 minute trip you would need to call
a Windsor cab from the airport. Don't take a London
cab to Windsor as that is an unrestricted area and
they can charge you pretty much whatever they want.
Heathrow has tons of shopping and restaurants. Browse, have something to eat. I would not venture out of the airport.
I have connected through Heathrow many times. Your layover isn't enough time to properly enjoy anything outside of the airport grounds. I would suggest, as others have, to just relax.
I'm with the others. Don't leave the Airport cause s#*t can happen. Walk around the terminal. Do a little plane spotting, relax, grab lunch there. You'll find a selection of restaurants and gift shops to browse in. Read a book, magazine or local newspaper. Call home. Journal. People watch. Can't recall if there is a hotel connected at LHR. You could rent a day room for a few hours. Or get a day pass to the health spa/pool/gym. Freshen up in their shower. Shouldn't cost too much. Get a massage, maybe? There are a number of services available within the Airport itself. Check the website?
You could always get a day room at the Hilton at Heathrow Airport... last I checked it was 99GBP per day. you could rest and freshen up.
If you take a taxi to Windsor it is a 15 minute ride.
You would have enough time to go to Windsor spend a couple of hours there then take a 15 minute ride back to the airport. It is very doable.
