Has anyone used this tip from Rick for car rental?

This is what Rick has on his site.

"Travel Guard CDW: Travel Guard sells renter's collision insurance at very affordable rates ($9/day plus a one-time $3 service fee covers you up to $35,000, $250 deductible, tel. 800-826-4919). It's valid throughout Europe, but some car-rental companies refuse to honor it (especially in Italy and the Republic of Ireland). If your car-rental company doesn't honor this coverage, and you have to buy other coverage to replace it, Travel Guard will refund your money."

We want to rent for a car maybe through Autoeurope for a week in France and maybe three days in England. I am concerned and a bit scared after reading the post on Italy and the fender bender, so want to make sure we have whatever protection.

I have used Travel Gard (they seem to spell the name Gard as well as Guard) in France for both my luggage and the cdw for a car rental. I began several years ago on the recommendation in the Steves France book at the time. They are reputable and a godsend for drivers who are not experienced in the habits of European drivers I returned our rental car the victim of several scrapes and minor dings, not big enough to be called a dent. The clerk at the rental agency in Paris looked at the car smiled, thanked me for doing business with them, and returned my copy of the rental papers. You are fine. she said, you will have no problem.

I'm glad we took the insurance. You'll have enough to do reading unfamiliar signs in France and staying on the other side of the road in UK. It's worth the peace of mind.

I wrote to AutoEurope but they said that Travel Guard's CDW is not always accepted in France. They did give me a quote for a one week car rental in France, including full CDW (zero deductible) and I couldn't believe the price!

Makes me want to forego a car rental and stick with public transport.
