Has anyone used http://www.italiarail.com/ for Italy train tickets

Hello fellow travelers!

We are going to Rome from Venice and they are quoting a price of $214.00 USD to purchase our tickets ahead of time. Is this a good price or should I wait until we get there to purchase the tickets?

Thanks!

Probably not, where did you get that price? Also, are going first or second class, and type of train. It all makes difference in pricing. Give us some information !! to work with.

I assume "We" means two adults and in 2nd cl. RailEurope is currently charging $106 per person, about the same price. Trenitalia shows the counter price of the fastest trains from Venice to Rome as €73, which converts to $97 each ($194 for two) at today's exchange rate. Depends on how much you want to gamble on the exchange rate changing between now and when you go.

You could also go by slower (about 6h10m) IC, for €42,50 ($57) each at the counter, instead of $97-$107 for 3h45m Eurostar.

Its 2 second class seats. We are leaving from Venice S.Lucia to Roma terminia, direct ride with no stops. It is an ES train. I know with trenitalia, you can't purchase tickets online from the US. I'm just a control freak and want to make sure we have tickets. I've never heard of the website before. I just want to make sure it is legit.

There is one of those train (ES* AV) leaving Venice for Rome every hour, and the tickets you buy at the counter come with a seat reservation. If you buy your tickets you first day in Venice, you should have plenty of choices.

"with no stops"?

Direct, yes. The train makes stops in Mestre, Padova, Bologna, and Florence, before Rome.

I meant its a direct ride form Venice to Rome with no stops in between. Thanks for your help though.

There are stops. You really mean no train changes.

I have used Italiarail.co in the past with no problem, it is the UK version of Italiarail.com. They are official agents for Trenitalia.

Unless they are able to give you the advance purchase discount tickets that are available from Trenitalia it is probably best to wait until you get to Italy.
