Has anyone ordered a Vegan meal when you've flown?

We will be flying United. I see the description on line as to what a Vegan meal won't include, but I'm wondering what sort of things did you get to eat? Thanks.

I have ordered vegetarian on past few delta and usair flights. What's funny is that we chose the ovo-lacto option but almost always get vegan. I suppose, that if a lot of vegans are flying, everyone gets vegan.......but we always have to ask for butter, salad dressing; we are envious of those eating a cookie or brownie and we got sliced strawberries and blueberries (I know, healthy is best but all diets off when on vacation.) Some examples that I can remember: Indian food with some kind of Chana masala, came with seasoned curried spinach and naan bread. It was good. We also got a lentil veggie burger with rice and veggies. Another time we got a tofu, beans and rice. Over all good food, no indigestion or poisoning.
I complained more about airplane food when I was a meat eater. Plus you get your meal before anyone else.

I had same experience as prior poster - even vegetarian meals are made vegan. I've had some very weird "veggie" meals, consisting primarily of super dried out, pre-packaged food (what, vegans don't like moisture?). If you're hoping for yummy, I'd pack yourself some backup snacks.

We usually fly Delta, but as other posters have said, while an airline may list multiple special meal options (Vegetarian, vegan, Kosher, etc) in truth, there likely will be a "one meal fits all option". My wife usually order a vegetarian meal, gets vegan, then regrets not just getting one of the regular meals. Not sure about United, but Delta seems to offer a meat, usually beef or chicken, then a non-meat option, usually a pasta. As for what is in a vegan meal, I recall usually vegetables and grains, sometimes prepared as a curry. I think the same meal is also gluten and lacto free, fitting the "one meal" strategy.

I'm starting to think I might just go with the regular meal. United does offer either beef or chicken and then a pasta. I guess I'll carry on a lot of things too - our granddaughters will be with us, and I think will probably prefer eating their own things. This does sound risky going with the vegetarian option. Thanks for the input!

I ordered my wife a low salt/low fat special meal once going to Europe. It was simply inedible. I have vowed never order such a meal again. I cannot imagine what a Vegan meal would be like on an airplane. You might want to carry on foods to get you over the hump in case the airlines' menu is also inedible.
We picnic all the time on airplanes.

When my cousin flew here once from Sweden (not sure which airline) she ordered a vegetarian meal, and it was all beans in an onion type sauce. She ate it and then proceeded to be sick (horrible stomach problems) for the rest of the flight. I don't think there was anything wrong with the food, just not a good digestive choice.
