Handicapped parking in UK

Any advice on how to obtain a "Blue Badge" handicapped parking tag while driving in the UK? Will a US issued parking tag work over there? Thanks.

I don't have good news here, Jerry, I'm afraid. I have seen European blue badges here, and British ones in Europe. But I have never seen a non-Eu one. I went to the Glasgow web page about blue badges and it said the following,¶ "11. Visitors from abroad- use of Blue Badge ¶ The Blue Badge Scheme provides a national arrangement in the UK and a partnership arrangement in most European countries, for parking concessions for disabled people who travel either as passengers or driver, but not for countries out-with Europe. ¶ Therefore only visitors from Europe can use their Blue Badge while staying in the UK.¶" .... sorry

Hi Jerry, I did some research about this, I didn't find anything that would cover the entire UK. I did find the following application for a blue badge for an overseas visitor...but it's for the Leicestershire County Councilhttp://www.leics.gov.uk/overseas_blue_badge_application.pdf~~thought that you might be able to contact them and they would be able to help you. Hope this helps some.

Thanks for the postings. I did find a UK site, but as you suggest, it seems like it is a locality issue. I think I'll try the proprietors of the B&B's where we are staying in The Costwolds and Wales. It shouldn't be a problem in Yorkshire, since I'll be attending a meeting and won't be driving around much. And, I get rid of the car before heading to London. Yay!

Hi Jerry, I'm been looking to see if I could find any more info for you, I found this...... Local councils are responsible for issuing Blue Badge parking permits. Contact your council to apply for a Blue Badge. They will send you an application form which you will need to fill in and return with two recent passport-sized photographs of yourself. Some councils charge an application fee of up to £2. You may be able to begin your Blue Badge application online through your local council's website. Enter details of where you live to find your local council website where you can apply for a Blue Badge or find out more. Please note that this service is only available for councils in England................... Sounds like it might not be possible to get one...but like you said, check with your B&B.

I have driven 4 separate years in UK and Scotland and Ireland, using my NC Handicapped tag. Never got a ticket or even a second look. They saw the badge on the rear view mirror and waved me onward. John
