Does anyone know if we can use our handicap placard from the US on a car in SCOTLAND and IRELAND?

As far as the UK (which include Scotland and Northern Ireland) is concerned American placards are not officially recognised but may be at the discretion of the local authority.

Stop and think about --- would a handicap placard from Ireland be acceptable in Texas? Probably not -- would local police recognize it for what it is? Who knows? Finally we have handicap parking spaces everywhere -- sometimes to excess. Haven't been to Scotland but I do not remember seeing handicap space in Scotland or the rest of Europe.
