We will be getting bus or rail tickets from Salzburg to Hallstaat. Shouldn't be any problem, but, how about buying rail tickets to get us from Hallstaat to Melk? Is there a place to purchase these tickets in Hallstaat or should we get them before we leave Salzburg.? Any advice/suggestions would be appreciated.

Keith, I travelled a similar route about a month ago. I'd suggest that you buy all tickets at the station in Salzburg, as the small station in Hallstatt doesn't seem to be staffed on a regular basis.
On the trip from Salzburg to Hallstatt, we were placed on Buses for a small portion of the trip as they were repairing damage to the rail lines. Not sure if that's still the case?
If you need a Net Cafe in Hallstatt, a new facility opened in May (just around the corner from Gasthof Simony). The dinners at both Gasthof Simony and Hotel Gruner Baum were excellent, and of course it's nice to sit on the patio of either place and have a "cold one" right by the lake!

Keith, I certainly hope to "keep on travelling", especially on more RS tours. I've usually got several trips in the planning stages, so just waiting for the funds and the time off work.
