My husband and I are visiting friends at the Hague in May 2014, then on to a little genealogy in Freiburg, Switzerland, then on to Paris. We're flying into Amsterdam and out of Paris, 3 weeks total. Any recommendations for this "circle" trip? We're thinking of Milan, Monaco, Provence, Mont St. Michele....Your thoughts please. Short plane trips, or train?
This is a challenging itinerary, because the connections are so long. 8 or 9 hours to Fribourg from the Hague; that again to Milan; another all-day trip to Provence. You might want to leave off one of the far-flung destinations.
Flying might improve things marginally; Fribourg seems to be about 90 minutes or so from airports in Geneva and in Zurich.
If you can reorder things and fly our of Switzerland, you could go from the Netherlands to Paris, tour a bit of Normandy, take the TGV to Provence, and then proceed to Milan. Still some long awkward connections but you can omit the Hague > Switzerland trip that way.
If you are willing to trim your sails just a little there are some wonderful destinations between Paris and Switzerland.
