i am visiting zurich, venice, rome during 16-27 july 2010 with my wife. i need guidence on euro rail pass /ticket booking which is economical.i am coming from India Uday chitale
First, you need to determine IF you need a pass. Plan your trip and do point to point pricing. Then compare that total against the price of the rail pass. You have to do a lot of long distance travel to make a pass pay off.
If your only rides will be Zurich-Venice and Venice-Rome, there is no pass that will be cost effective for you.
To get from Zurich to Venice you will need to change trains in Milan. You can book the entire route on the Swiss Rail site and pick up your tickets at the station in Zurich. The standard 2nd class fare is 140 CHF (105 EUR). Be sure you pick Venezia Santa Lucia as your arrival station and not Venezia Mestre.
Buy your Venice-Rome tickets when you get to Venice. The standard 2nd class fare is 73.00 EUR on high-speed EuroStar Italia trains and 42.50 EUR on IC trains. See the Trenitalia site.
