Traveling to Scotland and have read something about needing green card insurance. Does anyone know anything about this?
Can you give more context? Is this the US permanent residency card we're talking about here? If so, I've never heard of such a thing. I have traveled with travel insurance and the usual photocopies emailed to myself of important documents, but never special insurance for particular documents or cards.
Stephanie, will you have a rental car ? Because I think "Green Card" refers to car insurance in the UK.
Yes, I will have a rental car for a few days. I have been reading about insurance requirements and ran across this green card insurance. I originally thought that it would only apply to some one trying to get residency, but just want to make sure that it is not required for some one just visiting,
In European car insurance it is the form which used to be needed to travel within Europe from the UK. It has been supplanted in most cases by normal cover and multilingual insurance documents. It is now used for travel to non EU Europe.
Thanks, Nigel!
With car insurance in France, you still automatically get a "Green Card". This lists the (European and N.African) countries where you are covered for third party insurance. For example, I can drive my car in Morocco and be covered on my French insurance for no extra charge. It's a lot more "user friendly" than UK insurance. But if you are staying in the UK (that's England AND Scotland etc etc) you don't need to worry about it. Roger
