I just ran across this YouTube video and wanted to share it. It points out the things we all try to do, plus some things I had never considered. Very well done and helpful.

Yes, Les Frenchies!
They are delightful as well as full of practical information.
Yes, I've found les Frenchies videos to be very informative
"The vast majority of you will not encounter a pickpocket on the metro
in Paris."
Despite that, I thought it was telling that near the beginning of the video when he was walking into the metro station there was an announcement in several languages to watch out for pickpockets. My other key takeaway that should probably be mentioned as much as the pickpocket warnings is that it isn't a violent crime. I read comments on this Forum and on Facebook posts from people worried about their safety, when that's not really necessary as it's not a mugging by gunpoint, the pick pocketers don't want to be noticed.
Yes - and their number one point, worth repeating 1,000 times
especially on this site:"The vast majority of you will not encounter a pickpocket on the metro
in Paris."
And yet they described a great number of successful and unsuccessful attacks on themselves.
Sorry guys, if the odds are against it, and I believe that, then I am not going to treat a ride on the subway as some sort of Seal Team 6 Tactical mission. When it comes to that I will travel someplace I can enjoy and forget about Paris.
What a good video, thank you for posting! When I lived in Rome and rode the infamous Bus 64, a/k/a The Pickpocket Express, if the bus was crowded I just didn't get on. Another one would always come along in a few minutes. I had an American friend who lived in Rome for 20+ years, originally from NYC and very savvy, and when we would ride Bus 64 together she enjoyed identifying the pickpockets and pointing them out to me. The video is spot on in that they always work in teams. Also the "death stare" does work. I used it on an obvious pickpocket eyeing and sidling up to an American tourist's camera bag and she and her partner got off at the next stop.
Great video, I also find placing my cash and cards inside my socks next to my ankles to be a great trick as well. If someone's going for your ankles and lifting up your pant legs, then you know something's not right lol.
Very funny, NomadNick! For the same reason, I store my valuables in a neck wallet that hangs inside my blouse just above waist level. Figure I'd definitely notice the intrusion!
@Linda LOL good spot.
