Don't know how extensive this is, but right now Delta has some really good prices on round trip tickets from different parts of US to Europe. Sacramento to Frankfurt rt was in the high 500's on average. Looks like good prices are thru end of March, wonder how long they will stay this low.
each airline has deals that come and go
There was a local news report (St. Paul) that prices to Europe are very reasonable right now. Perhaps we will have greater competition in are area now that another airline has joined the mix. We are a Delta hub.
thanks rob in cal. This was helpful. I've been loosely checking for a sale like this and appreciate your heads-up.
These sales are very common (not just with Delta) and always in the shoulder season ("through March") because most people don't want to travel from the US to Europe in winter. There are always some people who wouldn't mind going in winter, but not the vast majority. Iceland Air has similar sales, often in winter (as do other airlines).
We used to fly out the last day or two in March for the "winter fares." Spring fares always go up on April 1st.
Rates go up and down with supply and demand--and with competition.
We're fortunate to have a few European discount airlines like WOW, Icelandic and Norwegian Air Shuttle flying into the U.S. to keep our domestic carriers "honest." And the big boys don't like it.
We always like traveling in April to avoid the crowds and hot temperatures. That's about the time Europe's winter weather turns into spring.
Lots of low price flights out there now for winter off-season travel.
Be sure you read the fine print about what's included and what's not - eg the scourge of so-called "basic economy" fares now widely pushed by the major US legacy airlines.
