Granada to Barcelona Night Train

Hi! I am looking for information on how to take the night train from Granada to Barcelona, Spain. Does anyone know where I can make these reservations? We will be traveling in March 2013. Thank you!

You have to go to the RENFE website, the Spanish rail company. The information is not yet available for dates after 1/1/2013, so you'll have to wait a little longer. I tested for Dec. 21, 2012 and the train departs at 22:30 from Granada and arrives in Barcelona Saints station at 9:29 in the morn. The train is a TrenHotel (i.e. a night train) that is called Alhambra. The price is currently 65.30 euro one way for a Turista fare and more for various accomodations all the way to 220 euro if you want a bed compartment on your own. Granada to Barcelona is a long way (almost like from Walnut Creek to Portland, Oregon), so I'm not sure if the train is the best option for you. Just in case you are interested the low cost airline Vueling has 3 daily flights from Granada (GRX) to Barcelona (BCN). By air is about one and 1/2 hours and even cheaper than the train (59.99 euros for March 13). http://www.vueling.com/en/ In any case if you absolutely want to take a train, I'll give you the RENFE website page. There are also other travel agency websites that you can go through. You'll probably have to wait until January before you can purchase. Keep an eye on it. http://www.renfe.com/EN/viajeros/horarios.html

two years ago i took the night train from barcelona to granada. first class, private room with bath and shower. dinner and breakfast. it was first class by far. a four course dinner included with unlimited drinks. a great breakfast in the morning. paid maybe 250. figuring it is really a hotel night and train fare plus dinner and breakfast. pretty cool. do it. renefe seemed to always be down for me so i went through rail europe. yes i know this board hates them.

Just wondering if you were able to get the overnight train tickets for March 2013? I am looking for the same thing, but it seems that there are no trains from Granada to Barcelona after March 1st. Is this service cancelled? Or are all those trains sold out?? Thanks!

I see the 2nd March, altho. no night train. Check on a daily basis.

It looks like the night train does not run on Saturdays. There is none on Feb. 16 or 23rd, or March 2. And no trains at all show up after that, so they must not be in the system yet. Keep checking, as Neil suggests.

I looked recently to try and answer another poster and found no overnight train in the RENFE system for any day of the week. It is possible that this train has been discontinued. I wouldn't be surprised since it doesn't make much sense. You can fly in no time for a fraction of the cost.

I was able to book my reservations for March 1, 2013 through Rail Europe. I just called the customer service number and they were extremely helpful in making my plans (it's based in the U.S. so no language barrier). I was having the same issue where the schedule wasn't coming up online. The Rep told me that sometimes the Spanish trains do not release tickets/reservations for sale when it's scheduled to, but she placed a reservation hold so that the moment it came available I could book it. It's $18 for the shipping, but I had multiple reservations to make so they had them shipped all together for the one price.

Thanks to all who've replied!
They've released the schedule for Trenhotel past Mar 1/13. So I booked my tickets for March 25 today! With the Estrella discount, it worked out to 70 euros per person for a two person cabin - much cheaper than taking the plane and paying for a hotel.
