GPS Systems for Europe

Has anyone used the Tom Tom GO 910 system? I found one online for under $300 new. I think because it's an older model since the newer ones are around $600. Does anyone know how easy it is to update the mapping software as the years go by? Also, how accurate are these things at advising any road closures, roadworks etc. for real time? I'm a little green on these wonderful little machines, but we have a month of driving in Germany, Italy, & England and are told it's a must have. Thanks for any help and advice.

Like Kent, I used the 910 in Europe in 2007. It has since been replaced by the 920. To get a new gps with Europe maps on it for under $300 is a good deal. You can do as Kent says and update the maps online but I don't know what the cost would be. I had one free upgrade for the North America maps but not for the Europe maps. I would not hesitate to go back to Europe with mine as is. Most of the roads are going to be the same. Any new roads should not be that big of a problem becasue the gps will recalculate another route as long as you have your destination programmed in. My 910 also worked without a problem in Europe. Here in the U.S. I have had a couple of little glitches with it but nothing major. For example it tells me that I reach my home about a tenth of a mile before I get here. So when she (her name is Susan) says "you have reached your destination" and I am a tenth of a mile away, there I sit. Don't even get to sleep in my own bed. :)

Lane, I'm curious, does SUSAN have attitude if you make a wrong turn? My friend has a GPS for the US and the voice definitely has attitude when she says "recalculating". We have to laugh!

Yes Margaret, Susan can come across with an attitude especially when she says "turn around when possible." It has a tone of superiority the way she says it and implies that the driver (me) is a big dummy for having missed the turn she warned me about several times before reaching that turning place. She is like a third person in the car and I start talking back to her. I then realize that I am losing it. Talking back to a machine!! Someone else once wrote on these forums that they talked back to their gps (maybe it was Kent) so at least I am not the only one whose sanity is declining as the aging process continues. With apologizes to Kent if I was wrong about calling him out as one who talks back to his gps. In spite of Susan's sometimes holier than thou attitude I can overlook that because she always gets me where I intend to go.
