We are going to Lake Bled in Slovenia coming from San Francisco. What is the best airport to fly into, and then what is the best way to travel from the airport to Lake Bled? I am sure that one of the many travel experts here can help. Thanks in advance.

Looking at the German Rail website, it looks like there is pretty good rail service from all three cities, although the route from Zagreb takes longer and goes through Ljubljana. It might be more important which airport is more convenient to fly into as to schedule, ground transportation to the train, and has the lowest fares.

Lee mentioned the German Rail site (http://reiseauskunft.bahn.de/bin/query.exe/en), which I reference often for point-to-point info. That's helping me plan our own post-trip plans following the ETBD Eastern Europe tour ending at Bled SLO next October (about the time you're planning). Rail looks likes a good option to/from Ljubljana, whether connecting in Klagenfurt or Zagreb or maybe even Vienna. Check the air options on something like http://www.kayak.com/, then look for area ground transportation starting at http://www.world-airport-codes.com/ to get to/from the major city. What would also be nice is an info site for bus service, which I have yet to find.
