Going around in Florence, Italy

Hi,

I am planning to travel from Venice to Florence by train. I got one day to spend in Florence. I saw this website and I am interested in choosing few places since I have only 1 day

Any suggestions on a Hostel or Hotel near the main train station ? What is the best way to get around Florence to see these places ? I am going to decide on the places I would like to visit before going up there but how do I get information on the local train/ bus that can take me there ?

Thanks

Most places you go in Florence you can simply walk there. It's a pretty compact city and the tourist sights are all within about 20-30 minutes of one another. As I recall, they re-routed traffic around the Duomo area, so it's more difficult to get there by bus/taxi. No train/subway in Florence.

Liz is right on. From the train station, the central part of Florence is a simple 10-15 walk. From the Duomo (just look up and walk that direction) you can see most all sights on foot. Get a map to help you navigate the streets, and plan on just getting lost - you'll have a great time discovering on your own.

Agreed.. just see Florence by foot & you will see it's beauty up close. As for accommodation, Florence Plus Hostel is great. Clean & affordable & the staff is extremely helpful & it is only a 10 minute walk from the train station.
I would also suggest taking an early train from Venice so you can squeeze a few more hours of seeing the sights once you arrive in Florence. The bonus...leaving Venice in the early morning light is a photographer's delight if you are into that.
