I am flying business class on Lufthanza. Am I taking a chance ordering gluten free food? How do I order GF?

RObyn, i would say it would depend on how sensitive you are to gluten. Ask yourself this, are you willing to get sick on your trip? my sister-inlaw is really sensitive to gluten so she cooks/prepares ALL of her meals. just something to think about when youre on plane. happy trails.

I have had GF food on Luftansa, special order meal. I think I phoned, as I could not see it when buying the flight online. It was ok, labelled gf. I always take snacks along anyways, almonds, dried fruit, apples that I try and eat before the plane lands, snack bars I know are GF. I save a snack bar or 2 for the flight home. Some of the gf meals I have had on Air Canada or Luftansa were pretty blah, so having my own snacks helped. I usually have to connect and depart jus before noon, so I pack a sandwich for that meal, as there are no gf food in the in flight purchase stuff. Usually a simple ham & cheese or just cheese. I put it right behind my ipad, in a ziplock, so it might be a bit flatter, but not completely destroyed. I also put some gf crackers in a cheap plastic container so I have some extra food to start my trip with. As I emptied the container, I had found shops with others I could replace my stash; I use google to find shops with gf products before I leave.

While I can not speak to Lufthansa specifically, many of the airlines I have flown on have a general meal or two that can meet multiple requirements (Vegetarian, Vegan, GF, Kosher, Halal, etc.) Point being, while the meal may meet your nutritional requirements, due to meeting the requirements of a couple other nutritional needs, the meal may not be what you expect. As an example, my wife always used to order a vegetarian meal, but since the vegetarian meal is also vegan, she has since decided that the pasta option typically offered is good enough (she eats dairy and fish as well) The vegan meal was just too bland. I would at least suggest taking something to supplement your meal.
