Global Entry with New Passport

We both have Global Entry which is good for another 3.5 years. My husband just renewed his passport so now has a different number than the one he used to apply for GE. Does he need to do anything to transfer the GE over to the new passport, or is it automatic?

My husband and I had our passports renewed since we enrolled in Global Entry and have traveled internationally several times since and had no problems.

Lola, it is my understanding that with a renewed passport the GE transfer is not automatic. I believe you can update online through Global Online Enrollment System {GOES} account. Hope this works.

** Edit: Thanks for the updated online system. I stand corrected!

As my passport was about to expire when I applied for GE, the TSA agent who did our interview instructed me to manually update my new passport info on their website. Doesn’t take long to do it and might save you the hassle of any issues at the airport.

Lola, good topic and one in which I will soon become even more interested in as this will happen to me, too. Would you please let us know what he ultimately did that worked?

US Customs and Border Protection suggests you update the info in your GOES or TTP account when you get a new passport or driver license. I would follow that suggestion.

I was advised to stop in at the CBP office in the airport (SFO) with the new passport and they would update their record for GOES purposes, but I haven't had a chance to do so even though I have been through SFO a few times since getting the new passport -- so I appreciate the notes here suggesting we go to our online account and make the update there.

Lola,

He needs to log into the global entry website and update the passport info for his account.

This is what I did a couple of years ago when I got a new passport. That was the only thing that I had to do. Some people report that they have been able to enter without doing this. The update only takes a few minutes, so why risk a delay. Note that they changed the website at some point in the last 6 years, so there may be a few additional steps to get setup on the new site. I first enrolled in 2012, renewed my passport in 2015, and re-enrolled in 2017. There was a website change sometime during that period of time which required some setup.

You have to go on-line with the account log-in and password that you created when you applied for GE, and up date your information including new passport number AND expiration date. Also you should update anything else that has changed. It is easy to do and takes a few minutes. There is no linkage between GE and the passport issuing offices. You have to change it.

Per the banner atop the Trusted Traveler website (https://ttp.cbp.dhs.gov/), "CBP is requesting all members to update their travel documents associated with their current TTP account. Having the proper travel document in your TTP account will help expedite your inspection process when using the Global Entry kiosks."

Also...GOES is no longer and has been replaced with the TTP system. So, you will have to create a new login if you applied through GOES. I did recently to update some info and it was painless.

Thanks so much, everyone. We had not yet created new TTP accounts so I did that for both of us, using the link Laura provided, and then going to https://ttp.cbp.dhs.gov to go through the steps. Use a device that you can get your email on, as your email address is the access into the new system. They will then send a code to you by text, so have your phone handy. Next you will get a “personal key” (16 letters and numbers) that you need to enter, and they suggest you write it down and keep it safe.

After creating the new accounts with new passwords, I went into my husband’s and updated his passport information. That part was quick and easy. Now were all set. Next trip exactly 6 months from tomorrow!
