Global Entry Renewal Time

Submitted a renewal application a couple of days ago and, while the site is not the easiest to use, received the approval less than 48 hours later. However, there was nothing on the site about a new card being issued even though the old card does have an expiration date printed on it. It only said the card was not necessary if returning to the country by air. Have been unable to contact anyone at the agency to answer this. Does anyone have any recent experience with this, or have any knowledge as to the issuance of new card? And insight will be greatly appreciated.

I also recently renewed and found the turnaround time super quick. But, I received a new card (w/ old pic) with new expiration date in the mail. That took about a week longer than the email status update, so maybe give it another week and see if it arrives?

I just got approved for my renewal one YEAR after applying. I received my new card about a week after the email notifying me of my approval. Prior to that, when I traveled twice internationally with expired GE (they still honor expired GE until a decision is made on approval) and I was never asked for my GE card.

The card is only useful for border by land or sea. The actual GE status is linked to your passport.

From CBP

**Using Your Global Entry Card*
We accept Global Entry cards for lawful U.S. entry at land and sea ports of entry.
Global Entry cards have radio frequency identification chips, which enable their use at Secure Electronic Network for Travelers Rapid Inspection (SENTRI) and NEXUS travel lanes when entering the United States at the land borders. You must follow all program rules for SENTRI when using this card at the Southern land border ports of entry.
You may use this card for expedited entry into the United States via the SENTRI and NEXUS lanes. The card is not valid for entry into Canada via the NEXUS lanes.
Only your passport or lawful permanent resident card are accepted at Global Entry kiosks. The Global Entry card cannot be used at Global Entry kiosks.*

Global entry cards can also be used as a form of Real ID. So presumably at TSA checkpoints in US airports, etc

You should get a new one in the mail. I have renewed twice now and both times I received a card a couple of weeks after approval. It will have the same photo.

I'm still waiting for my renewal notice a little over eight months after applying.

I wonder if they go by how close you are to expiration?

I renewed my Global Entry last week, as soon as I received a notice; it expires in August. After I received my approval, I was told that my new card would be sent to me. This all happened and was completed in a day or so. Good for five years, cost $100.
My dh’s expires in Sept so I will be doing his soon.

I’m never asked for my card when flying back to the states. Just did so on 3/9. GE is connected to your passport while the card can be used crossing from Mexico and Canada.
I got my card within a week of my approval but hubby did not. We paid via our credit card and were reimbursed the fee. Check your card benefits everyone. You might save a hundred bucks.

Appreciate all your insights. Will just sit tight for a couple of weeks and watch for it in the mail. Thanks everyone.
