Global Entry interview scheduling

FYI: When signing up for Global Entry, do not wait until the last minute. After waiting a week in "pending" status, I started to schedule the interview. In Phoenix, the soonest interview is three months away, in mid-June. I'm driving down to Tucson, 2 1/2 hours away, for an 15 minute April interview. Not convenient but I'd rather wait three weeks instead of three months.

Keep checking the site every day. There are frequent cancellations and you may be able to get an interview in the time frame you want without driving. Good luck!

I had this same issue in DC; had to wait months. BUT when I actually went for my interview, they took several walk-ins just during the 15 or so minutes I was there! It could have just been a fluke that day, but for folks who have an interview location nearby, it couldn't hurt to swing by on a day when you have some time, just to see if they can take you. The interview itself is very short (mine lasted under five minutes).

I agree to keep checking the site for appointment cancellations. I was able to move mine up last summer although the closest interview place for me is in Boise, a 6 hour drive. They did take another woman and me in early for our appointments. We were both sitting outside the office in our vehicles, both decided at the same time it was too hot so we both went in to the office at the same time. We were seen about 30 minutes ahead for the, yes, pleasant, informative 15 minute interview.

Things must have changed in DC.....when I got Global Entry three years ago, the wait at the closest interview site to me at the time, 3 hours away, had a two month wait.

However, at Dulles (IAD), I could have my choice of days and times. Set one up for the following week and I got my final approval less than four hours after the interview.

Tucson will work. My travelling companion lives there. So we'll have lunch, make plans and I have things to take to her. I just wanted people to know about the wait if their trips are soon.
Thanks for the feedback about walk ins.

Hi horse, glad the day trip to Tucson works for you. We did basically the same thing. Local appointments were scheduled 4 months out so we travelled 90 min to do the interview (4 weeks versus 4 months). Worked great and we had a nice day too! Global Entry is great, saves so much time, no hassles.

Global Entry is worth whatever you have to do, we live in Kansas and the closest place to interview was Dallas so we booked a morning flight and came back the same afternoon. Even though it was an expense we have not missed a connecting flight since using Global Entry, I love waking through customs/immigration in about 60 seconds!

I was able to schedule an interview for mid-April at a comparatively convenient distance; fingers crossed.

Since the GOES web page lists a PASSID for me even though I have not gone through the interview yet,
what do you think will happen if I add that number to my reservation record for my flights in March?
Should I do it and give Pre check a try?

The first appointment I could get when I applied was two months past my travel date. This was for the office closest to my home. After reading suggestions on this site, I kept checking on line and alternative dates did open up but nothing that was prior to my trip. I finally checked a newly opened up office, a 3 hour car drive away from me and was able to get in there. It was cutting close to my trip and I was worried that I would not have the Global entry ID card in time and mentioned this to the man who interviewed me. He said I really didn't need the card because once the interview was completed, I was good to go with the number I had already been assigned. So, as suggested, I wouldn't try it unless you/'ve had your interview as the number is truly activated until then.
P.S. I love using it!!
