Global Entry application question

Hi. I've got a question for anyone who has signed up for Global Entry. I couldn't really see a good forum for this one though so I thought I would try here.

Just as an example, my passport is in the format of Surname: Smith. Given Names: John Adam. John being first name, Adam being middle name.

The Global Entry application has Surname/last name and Given/first name, which are both required to be filled in. They also have a box for Middle name, which is not required.

Should I enter as John Adam in the Given/first name box, or enter John in the Given/first name box, and enter Adam in the middle name box?

I've done some searching and found a few topics on if the first name and middle name need to be exact when purchasing international tickets and such, so I assume this could be one of those weird things too. I've tried emailing the official address and have also waited on the phone for 20 minutes with the official help phone line as well.. no luck.

Thanks

All U.S. passports put first and middle name together under "given names" as middle names are not used in many areas of the world.

On your GE application put your first name where you are asked to put your first name and your middle name where you are asked for your middle name.

John in first name box and Adam in the middle name box, as you say that’s your middle name. That way will match your passport. Can’t see any problem here.

I guess I am not seeing the problem or the question - really. If you name is John Adam Cooker, then Cooker is your surname or last name since (in theory) you don't have a choice about that name. It is the family. But your first name is your given name. You could have been given any name -- Henry, Sam, William, etc. But the name you were given is John. Adam is a second name, middle, in your example and some folks have several middle or additional names. So the form is pretty straight forward.

And I have dropped my given middle name and use my maiden name as my middle name now. Three different boxes on the GE application. Very straight forward.

Hi - I recently applied for global entry and found this confusing also. Enter John in the given/first name box and Adam in the middle name box. This is what I did and it passed the initial approval. Now the hard part of scheduling the interview since I live several hours from any of the interview locations and no appointments are available in the places I will be in the next few weeks...

Mary, this is where you need to be vigilant about getting an appointment especially for the places you will be in a few weeks. Check on the website as often as you can and keep clicking "update" as appointments can pop open when someone reschedules. Those openings may not last very long as others are checking as often as I am recommending to you. Yes, it is monotonous but very much worth it if you can get an appointment soon!
