Does the swiss pass cover the scenic glacier express st. moritz to Zermatt?
Donald, I believe we paid an extra 15CHF supplemental fee on top of our Swiss Pass to ride the GE. That was a few years ago.
The Glacier Express is a premium train that runs on a regualr route. You can travel the whole route on a Swiss PAss, but it you want to travel specifically on the trains branded as "Glacier Express", you need to pay a relatively small supplemental fee.
Thank you for taking the time to reply
The regular regional trains do run on the same tracks as the Glacier Express but there is one extra bit of information. You will change trains twice along the route from St. Moritz to Zermatt. The GE is the only train run that goes end to end without a train change. Your Swiss pass would cover all non-GE trains with no extra charge.
Also, something that came up on a different thread the other day - if you are using the Swiss railways site to look for train times you need to "Andermatt" as an intermediate station to see local trains that follow the Glacier Express route. If you just look for trains from Zermatt to St Moritz you will be shown a faster but less scenic route.
@Phillip. You are correct. Sometimes, you put in Chur to Brig and the Swiss will try and route you via Zurich and not on the GE. Placing Andermatt or Disentis in the "via" box will indeed to the trick. All train runs will appear.
