Giving credit where credit is due

Amid the reports about bad behavior by car rental companies, I wanted to praise the experience I had with Europcar. We rented in Nice, France and returned to the airport there. Everything was handled smoothly and professionally. When I declined the additional insurance and the prepayment for fuel, no pressure was applied. The agent even advised me to refill a little away from the airport because prices are better there. I had some qualms when the person who checked the car in said they didn't give receipts, so we snapped a photo of the paper showing a full tank and no damage, which he placed on the dash and photos of the car, as well. I've waited 2 months, and no bad surprises have appeared. So, I'll commend Europcar, and try to use them in the future.

Thanks for posting this. With all the negative reports, it's important to have the positive ones too.

Yes, people don't post when everything goes as planned. Hertz in France went fine -- picked up nice car with automatic at Orly, insured with my Amex card and AAA discount. Drove for a week with provided GPS. Returned to Paris. Only problem was MY error in not getting explicit instructions for return site and not plugging the Orly location into the GPS when we got it (alternative return site. ) Helpful Hertz people at both ends of the transaction.

It took two months for Europcar to mail my French rental receipt to me--but it finally arrived. Maybe they hold on to it for a while in case there may be a speeding or parking ticket associated with the car?
