Could anyone tell how to get to Monets house in Giverny from Maisons-Laffitte station.
I love mOnets work but am only in Paris for 3 full days is it worth going?
Thanks too to everyone who's answered my queries over the past few weeks , really helped with planning my trip.
Elle, there are no Monets at Giverny. None. (Does that help you to decide?)
What you see are the house, including his studio, and the very beautiful gardens, which of course he painted. It could take all day, but it needn't. Worth it or not is your personal decision.
To get there from the train: there is a regular bus, there are cabs, or you can walk--it is more of a hike but includes some beautiful countryside.
To get to Giverny, take the RER A to Auber, walk through the tunnels to the Havre Caumartin Metro station and take line 3 to Saint-Lazare. Take a regional train from Gare Saint-Lazare to Vernon. Take a taxi, bus, or rental bike to Giverny.
Whether or not you decide to go to Giverny, be sure to see the Monet water lily paintings at the Musee de l'Orangerie (covered by the Paris Museum Pass) and at the Musee Marmottan (not covered). There are also several wonderful Monet paintings at the Musee d'Orsay (covered).
Are these the huge water lily paintings that Monet painted? Always thought they'd be in Giverny.
Its these I really want to see, sounds like i'd need a day to go to Giverny.
Yes, they are. The collection at the Musee Marmottan is bigger than the one at the Musee de l'Orangerie. According to a Google search I just did, the closest museum to Giverny that has paintings by Monet is in Vernon. There is one water lily painting and one other painting.
Thanks guys.
I'll save the trip to Giverny for another time.
I really thought I knew my art, seems I was wrong all these years to imagine all monets paintings being at Giverny.
Can't wait to see the water -lily panels.
Thanks for all your help
just to let others know that there now is a shuttle bus from the Vernon train station to Giverny...and the house and gardens of Monet close at the end of October. As Tim of Minot said..no original paintings there. The Lily panels are at L'Orangerie, but much more Monet at the Marmottan.
