Ghent/Brugge

I'm planning to travel to Belgium March 30 to April 3. My plan to to stay at the Marriott in Ghent and tour both Ghent and Brugge from that location. I've not been to either city so I welcome thoughts/recommendations from those who know the area.

Haven't been to Ghent, but Bruges is one of my favorite places. It is so beautiful and small enough to walk everywhere. The trip to Damme is very nice on a sunny day. You ride to Damme on a bus and return on a paddlewheel boat on the canal.

My preference would be to stay in Brugge and see Ghent from there, but try to spend at least an evening in Brugge. The city is beautiful at night when the belfry is lit-up and there are lights on the canals.

If the weather is nice take a bike ride out of Brugge to Damme (1/2 hour) or Sluis, Netherlands (1 hour more). The ride is flat and easy and the countryside is beautiful. There is a windmill in Sluis you can tour.

The Flemish Pot (I believe the information is the the RS book) is a delicious restaurant with wonderful atmosphere and decor. They serve traditional Flemish food along with savory and sweet pancakes and waffles.
