My daughter and I are planning to go out to the Wimbledon Tennis Championships near London in late June 2008. Before hooking up with the Steves "Best of Eurpoe Tour" in Paris several days later. We could use suggestions for a comfortable but affordable(?) place to stay in london and then the best connections for getting out to Wimbledon early in the morning to que up for tickets?
Thanks, A Tennis loving family
The Wimbledon Tennis complex is in the city of London easily reached via the Underground. Take the District Line to Southfields station. I recommend you find a hotel in the Kensington neighborhood of London as the District Line runs right through it. I've gotten some good rates (for London) at the Copthorne Tara Hotel Kensington: http://www.millenniumhotels.co.uk/copthornetarakensington
Michael,
Thank you! A very good lead.
Two other areas to think about staying in are South Kensington and Earls Court. (Earls Court is usually less expensive than Kensington or South Kensington.) And, when taking the tube, make sure the train says Wimbledon as its final stop. The District Line goes in all different directions and not all of the trains go near Wimbledon.
Maybe this should be its own question, but I will be in London in late June and would love to go to Wimbledon, but I do not have tickets. I know that they hold a lottery for tickets, but I believe I missed that. Does anyone know the best way to get a single ticket?
