What is the best way to get to Venice airport from Venice? Flight is at 11:30 a.m. on a Sunday (March 13, 2011). Need to be at airport by 9 or 9:30 on a Sunday morning. What runs that early (and reliably) on a Sunday?

We took to water bus to Piazza Roma and caught the number 5 airport bus, which was only 3 euros. It took us promptly to the airport in about 20-30 min. We also had an 11:30am flight. Our stop was near San Stae, which we caught around 8:10 or so, put us at Piazza Roma around 8:22, and we caught the 8:27am airport bus, which got us to airport before 9am. It may have been easy for us as we only had carry on luggage. Not sure how it would have gone if I was loaded down with luggage. A bit more cumbersome and I am not sure if there were luggage racks in the bus, as we were in the front of the bus. We also left on a Saturday.

You have plenty of time in the morning. The buses to the airport run from Piazzale Roma beginning before 6 am. Piazzale Roma is on several vaporetto (water bus) routes covering the entire island. As previously mentioned, though, the amount of luggage you anticipate carrying is a variable. You'll need to get your luggage on and off both the water and land buses.

If you are in a group of 4 or more another option is a water taxi. When split by 4 it is not much different in cost, and it is a really fun way to say, "arrivaderci Venizia". You can arrange a water taxi with your hotel.
