getting to the port

You will need to take a cab to Termini train station in Rome from your hotel, and then a train to Civitavecchia, the port for Rome, then another cab to the cruise ship as it's rather a long walk with luggage. The train journey is about 1 hour. If you google "Rome to Civitavecchia" you will get all the details.

Hi Linda - The tip to take the train is the best suggestion. A private cab will cost you in the vicinity of $125.00. The train will be much less expensive!!
Have a GREAT cruise!!

You need to plan on two hours or a bit more to get to the port. The most economical way is the train -- about three an hour and from 8 - 12 E depending on which train. Train time is about 45mins to 1:15 -- again depending on the train. Unfortunately it is a very long walk from the front of Termini to the Track 23 and 24 used by the train to Civit... Those tracks are in the very far right hand corner of the station as you face the tracks.

Once in Civit,,, the port entrance is to you right when exiting the station. There is a 1.10E shuttle bus to the port entrance but we have always found it slow with a long line. We just walk. About a half mile or so along the beach in front of the station. Taxi are available but will charge a high fare for the short trip.

Generally you can see your cruise ship from the front of the station. Walk out of the station, cross the parking lot, down to and cross the road between station and beach, turn right and follow the line of people headed in that direction. Once inside the port entrance a shuttle bus will take you to your ship's check in point.

If you are returning to Rome after the cruise, buy RT tickets in Rome. The line to buy tickets back to Rome is nearly impossible especially if more than one ship is in port. Buy an open, second class ticket, validate in the little yellow box, and climb on the first train IC headed to Rome. You might have to stand cause they pack 'em on.

Linda - Reading your question a bit closer sounds like you're staying at The Hotel Sunbay Park which is in Civitavecchia - If that's the case you are a couple of minutes from your ship

thank you for some of your reponses I did included the address,I didn't know the hotel was so close to the port.some people are so insensitive to others.
That's why a lot of people don't like this forum of info because you have people making them feel so stupid about their questions. It might have been important to them and to others it might seemed unnecessary.

There is a Via Aurelia in Rome, hence the confusion. It is always helpful to put the town or city name as well when asking for advice.

Linda...sorry if the responses upset you. But I must admit I'm a little surprised that you would book a hotel and not know where it was located. I find that asking the hotel for directions is usually the best, since they are the ones who deal with this type of question all the time. They'd be most aware of local conditions that may affect your commute to your destination...supply of taxis or location of public transit, distance, traffic issues, and the like. Failing that, go to maps.google.com and enter your hotel's address to locate it on a map, and in relation to your hotel. If you're arriving in Rome, then the instructions given by earlier posters will at least help you get to your hotel in Civitavecchia.

thank you again for your responses. I only picked that hotel because it was in
Civit. But I wasn't aware of the location in relation to the Port. Surely didn't know that there was a Via Aurelia in
Rome. I did call the hotel directly but the person I spoke to didn't speak english and couldn't understand me. So I decided to try this avenue of info. And I do appreciate it.

By the way, Linda, if you are arriving by air in Rome, do you know how to get to your hotel in Civitavecchia?
