getting to Slovenia and leaving from Dubrovnik

We are going on an RS trip in June; any ideas on airfare? The lowest fare I have found is about $1600. Has anyone used any of the regional airlines to get to LJU and out of Dubrovnik?

Karen,

My husband and I are also going on a RS tour to the same area in Sept. 2008. I checked with the travel agency that the RS folks recommended but the best they could come up with for airfare from Sacramento to Ljubljana was FAR higher (like about $600 to $1400 higher) than that which I found on my own using KAYAK.COM. I haven't yet booked our air tickets but I am leaning towards an itinerary that looks like this from Sacramento to Ljubljana:

United to Munich RT - $849/ per person.
Adria Airlines to Ljubljana RT $323/per person. Total air fare: $1172/per person.

I haven't yet firgured out how to get from Dubrovick back to Ljubljana so that we can make the RT Adria connect back to Munich but I think we will use either bus or a combination of bus and ferry. I plan to work on this after the holiday season.

Hope this helps.

I flew out of Sacramento last year, won't ever do it again because we wasted 5 extra hours in Dallas. You can fly from San Francisco to Frankfurt, nonstop, and fly into LJU. Croatian Air only has an interline agreement with Lufthansa or United and that means if you use American, Delta or Northwest you must pass through passport control, collect your baggage and go back into the European city airport from the beginning. If you're in Zurich or Frankfurt or Amsterdam, allow a minimum of 5 hours or more to change airplanes. Croatian air from Dubrovnik only goes nonstop on Thursday to Frankfurt, otherwise you must change planes in Zagreb. Feel free to contact me directly if you want more information, I am moving to Dubrovnik on 15 January 08. Hvala (thank you)

Karen:
We flew into London and then used a no frills airline to fly into Dubrovnik and then from Budapest to London for a good price (About $60 oneway). We found flying into Germany didn't offer us the connections. You may find flying into London and then connecting to LJU could work better for you.

There seems to be cheap flights from Dubrovnik to Munich available for September (14 to 72 Euros). This might work out better timewise and cost wise rather than flying round trip Munich to LJU if you are strapped for time.
